Why OffCampus exists

OffCampus replaces uncertainty with clarity during a student’s first housing search.

During first term, students are often expected to start deciding where they will live the following year. For many, this is the first time they independently choose and rent a home. The information they need exists, but it is fragmented across university pages, letting agents, listings, maps, older students, Reddit and word of mouth.

The job of OffCampus is to reduce that information asymmetry: collect, structure and clearly present what is relevant to the decision. It is not a ranking, a recommendation engine, or a replacement for Warwick’s housing guidance, Studentpad or the SU Advice Team.

Clarity, not recommendations

OffCampus presents alternatives, evidence and trade-offs. It does not tell students where they should live. Different students value different things. The aim is that someone leaves understanding their options better, not simply knowing more facts.

The six questions

  1. Where can I live? The main areas, on a map and as a set.
  2. What does it cost? Warwick rent snapshots, with bills treatment and dates shown.
  3. What is the commute? Sourced campus access and bus routes, not guessed journey times.
  4. What is around me? Amenities from area guides. If a category is not listed, it stays unknown.
  5. What do students who actually live there say? Recurring discussion themes, labelled as anecdotal. If we have not recorded themes for an area, the page says so.
  6. When do I need to act? A sourced search window and Warwick’s own off-campus stages, not a made-up deadline.

How we use information

  1. Sourced facts. Housing, transport and amenity information should be linked to identifiable sources wherever possible.
  2. Student experience. Student comments and discussions are treated as anecdotal experience, not objective fact.
  3. Unknown means unknown. If reliable information is unavailable, OffCampus should not invent or infer a value simply to fill a gap.
